The Black Horse

The Black Horse is a Grade II listed public house at 65 Blackhorse Lane in South Mimms, Hertfordshire, England. It dates from the early 18th century and is of red brick with a tiled roof. Blackhorse Lane, which may be named after the pub, was the lane along which South Mimms developed.

South Mimms is the northernmost village in the Historic County of Middlesex. South Mimms parish was split in 1894 under the Local Government Act 1894 with the extreme southern tip forming South Mimms Urban parish in the Barnet Urban District and was transferred to Hertfordshire.

Around World War II, the village was used as a location for a prisoner of war camp that consisted of two compounds. Today, however, South Mimms is a village that, despite the major roads, is surrounded by rural fields and has a lovely country feel to it once you escape the M25

Enjoy your favourite dish in our cosy dining room – or, when the warm weather arrives, why not dine in our lovely garden?

We serve fresh, locally sourced home cooked food as well as BBQ's in our garden. We constantly update our menu to ensure we give our customers a great choice of food at an affordable price.

We operate without the constraints of standard menus and bought-in food typical of the pub chains.

Our motto is 'Simple, honest food for an affordable price'

The Black Horse, South Mimms, has a large garden accessable via the car park, the front of the pub and from within the pub. Our garden is a nice relaxing spot for the stream of walkers coming from the nearby Redwell Wood with their dogs.

We are a dog friendly pub and our garden is fully secure so your dogs will not be able to exit the garden whilst you are not looking. Our beer garden has plenty of green space for families with children to enjoy their afternoon as well as a large number of out door seating to accommodate our customers.

Our garden is equipped with a Gazebo with benches to accommodate the smokers and is also used throughout the year for parties, BBQ's and open mic nights as well as other functions put on by the pub.

There is a no smoking policy within the pub it'self but smokers are able to smoke outside the building and smoking bins are provided to keep the outside gardens safe for children and dogs to use.
